Wind in baby

When Rara was 2 weeks old, it's not usual when she moans & groans, cries and twists, her face goes red and her little knees up !
We thought Rara was sick... until finally we know that is wind in Rara's tummy.
We can tell that she got wind inside her tummy when she cries for no reason for 1-2 minutes, then stop, then cry again. It could lasts for couple hours. It's very confusing, distressing and exhausting for us. Nothing seems works to settle her.


What is wind in babies ?
Nobody know the cause of wind in babies, but many believe it is related to babies feed time in that they may take in air with their milk. Small bubbles of air cause wind in your baby’s stomach or bowels and this in turn can cause tummy ache which can be very distressing for your baby. It has been thought that Breastfed babies may get less wind than bottle fed babies, they may take in less air, but it doesn’t mean that they definitely won’t get wind. If you’re feeding your baby with a bottle, make sure that the bottle is tipped up enough so that the teat is always full of milk. This will reduce the amount of air the baby swallows.

What can to do for help ?

• Place the baby upright against your chest, looking over your shoulder. Supported her bottom by your arm on that side. With other hand, par or rub gently on her back.
• Sit her up or lay her across your lap than pat and rub gently her back between her shoulder blades.
• Don’t always expect a big burp – just a small gurgle in his tummy could be a sign that any wind has escaped.

The nurse suggest to give Rara Infacol. Simethicone is the active ingredient in Infacol, which causes the small bubbles of gas in the baby's stomach to join together. This forms a larger bubble which can be easily expelled.

This does help but she still suffers from it sometime...
